Team History

For much of their history they have been overshadowed by the university's basketball team. But in the last 10 years the program has gained momentum. Three straight coaching staffs have led the team to 10+ win seasons, and they have gone 11 consecutive years with no losing record. This success matched with a passionate fanbase and a large market leads many to believe they may be next up in the conference realignment whirlwind.

Peak of Program

In 2019 they finished 12-2 with a conference title. They played Penn State in the Cotton Bowl. Had 3 wins verse ranked teams during the season, in addition to an opening victory over Ole Miss.

Rock Bottom

In 2011 they finished 2-10 in CUSA. Wrapping up a 5-31 three year stretch in a tumultuous realignment era.

Best Ever Player

DeAngelo Williams (RB, 2002-2005): College football Hall of Fame. FBS career leader in games with 100+ rushing yards. Was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Best Ever Coach

Justin Fuente (2012-2015): Inherited rock bottom for this program, won a share of a conference title, and set the foundation for the current run.
