Team History

A charter member of the Southwest Conference, they have a lot of history with the big programs of Texas Football. At one point they were a power, appearing in the AP Poll in 16 out of 19 years in 40's and 50's. They have been one of the more downtrodden programs since then, from 1964 to 1991 they only had 1 winning season.

Quick Facts

Peak of Program

In 1949 they beat Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor, SMU, and TCU on their way to an 11-1 record and top 5 AP finish.

Rock Bottom

After the 1995 season they were coming off a 2 win season and due to realignment were headed off to play in the West Coast Conference the next season, instead of a conference full of their Texas neighbors.
