Team History

Launched as a club sport in 1989, joined D3 in 1991, then joining FBS by 1996...only to be controversially shut down in 2014 over budget woes. After a massive grassroots uproar and $45 M in fundraising they roared back 2 years later. Bill Clark finished 3 games above .500 each of the next 5 seasons before stepping away. In 2021 they left ancient Legion Field behind for the sleek new 47K seat Protective Stadium downtown.
