Team History

The program moved up from division 2 to the FCS level in 1980. They were a founding member of what became the Missouri Valley Conference. Which they won once in 2020 under coach Bobby Petrino. They have only won more than 6 games in the 21st century twice, so the transition to FBS could be a rocky one.

Probably right now. Their only appearances in the FCS playoffs in the last 30 years came since covid. Now they get to jump up to the highest level of football.

Rock Bottom

In 2019 before Petrino came to town they had just gone 1-10, to complete their 10th consecutive losing season.

Best Ever Player

Tom Mullen (OT, 1970-1973): Two time unanimous first team all conference selection. Ended up going in the 2nd round of the NFL draft.

Best Ever Coach

Bobby Petrino (2020-2022): Took over the team at their rock bottom. Immediately made 2 FCS playoff appearances in his 3 seasons there.
