Team History

Have been playing at the FBS level since 1931 and only have 6 bowl game appearances to show for it. Which makes what Jerry Kill just did that much more impressive, winning 17 games in 2 seasons in 2022/2023 including a 31-10 win at Auburn. We'll see how they are moving forward, as his replacement Tony Sanchez immediately started losing at the pace they did before Kill.

In 1960 with the #1 offense in the nation they finished 11-0, ranked #17 in the final AP poll. They capped off the season with their second consecutive Sun Bowl victory.

Rock Bottom

In a 6 year stretch from 85-90 they went a combined 6-60, across 3 different coaches. Nothing was working.

Best Ever Player

Charley Johnson (QB, 1959-1960): The QB of the undefeated team, to date is the only player ever to win back to back Sun Bowl MVP's. Led the country in passing touchdowns in 1959.

Best Ever Coach

Warren Woodson (1958-1967): Most wins in program history, and the coach of their most successful teams. A member of the college football hall of fame.
