Team History

They didn't join the FBS level until 2000, but by 2004 had joined the power conference formerly known as the Big East. After that conference had a falling out, they had a losing record in each of their first 7 seasons in the AAC. Leading them to just go independent in football so basketball could rejoin the Big East. Things are finally looking up for them after a lost decade with bowl game trips in 2 of the last 3 years.

Quick Facts

Peak of Program

In 2010 they completed their 4th straight 8+ win season in a power conference. Winning the conference championship tie breaker, they played Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.

Rock Bottom

In 2021 they were coming off a season where they played 0 games because of covid, then went 1-11 including losses to UMass and Holy Cross.

Best Ever Player

Dan Orlovsky (QB, 2001-2004): Program career leader in passing yards and passing TD's. Helped school prove legitimacy in early FBS and Big East years.

Best Ever Coach

Randy Edsall (2000-2010 & 2017-2021): While there are no redeeming qualities of that second tenure, his first go around was without a doubt the programs glory years.
