
Team History
Buffalo had a program for 76 years, then the student body voted to stop funding the program so it was suspended in 1970 and didn't come back until 1977. In 1999 the program jumped back up to the FBS level. It was a rough first 15 years back, but since Lance Leipold got them on track they have reached a new standard.

In the 2020 season they entered the AP poll for the first time ever and hung on to finish the year ranked. It also capped off a great 3 year run that saw two trips to the conference championship game.
Rock Bottom
Has to be losing your program for 7 years entirely in the 70s. Then taking another 22 years after that to get them back up to the FBS level.
Best Ever Player
Khalil Mack (DE, 2009-2013): Unanimous All American and Butkis Award (best linebacker) winner in 2013. All time FBS leader in career tackles for loss and forced fumbles. Went 5th overall in the NFL draft.
Best Ever Coach
Lance Leipold (2015-2020): Took over a team that made 2 bowl games in the 21st century. Finished off his tenure with records of 10-4, 8-5, and 6-1. Included in that stretch were the programs first 2 bowl wins.
