Team History

Not much going on here until the 21st century, only reaching 1 bowl game until that point. In the last 20 years they have appeared in 10 more, but maybe that says more about how bowl season has evolved than Western Michigan. A program that usually hovers around .500, in the last 60 years they have lost more than 7 games only 7 times and won more than 7 games only 8 times. Lance Taylor's team is coming off a bowl appearance, we'll see if he can break that 7 game ceiling next season.

Quick Facts

Peak of Program

Absolutely the PJ Fleck years, culmninating in 2016's trip to the Cotton Bowl and top 15 finish in the AP poll. The 3 highest win totals of the last 15 years for them were the last 3 years of PJ Fleck's tenure.

Rock Bottom

In the beginning of the 21st century they had 4 losing seasons in a row, with the final one being 1-11. But even then, the other 3 seasons weren't that bad compared to what some other MAC fanbases have seen.

Best Ever Player

Corey Davis (WR, 2012–2016): The NCAA's all time leader in career receiving yards. In 2016 he was a first team All American and went 5th overall in the NFL draft.

Best Ever Coach

P.J. Fleck (2013–2016): turned around the program from 1–11 to an 13–1 unbeaten MAC championship and Cotton Bowl participant. Won the first bowl game in program history the year before.
