Team History

Didn't start playing ball until after Army and Navy's golden years. They have had similar success to the other academies since then though. They have appeared in the AP poll in 8 consecutive decades, remarkable consistency for a G5 program. Troy Calhoun is entering his 19th season as coach, looking to rebound from a 5 win season.

Quick Facts

Peak of Program

In 1985 they peaked at #4 in the AP poll and finished the year ranked #8. A 12-1 record that included victories over Army & Navy by at least 3 scores each, Notre Dame, and Texas.

Rock Bottom

From 1974 to 1981 they never won more than 4 games in a season. During this stretch Bill Parcells had the 1 stop of his coaching career where he left the place with a losing record.

Best Ever Player

Chad Hennings (DT, 1984-1987): Was a unanimous All American in 1987. I had to check a few places, but everywhere I look I'm seeing he had 24 sacks that season. Absolutely outrageous.

Best Ever Coach

Fisher DeBerry (1984–2006): 169 wins, the all time leader. Led them to their most successful season ever. They had a top 10 rushing offense in 19 of his seasons.
