Team History

They've been playing for a while, their last conference championship was part of a 3 peat in the WAC in the 60s. After a few forgettable decades they found some consistent success in the early 2000's. With only 2 winning seasons in the last 17 years they're desparete for success, we'll see if new coach Jason Eck can deliver.

Peak of Program

From 1961–64 they won a bowl, then saw three straight conference titles in their first three years in the WAC. In these 4 years they won 3 games against rival Arizona and 3 games against rival New Mexico State.

Rock Bottom

The Mike Locksley era starting in 2009 saw three consecutive 1 win seasons. Each year was bottom 10 in scoring offense and scoring defense. The 2011 team was last in offense and next to last in defense, losing by an average score of 12-42.

Best Ever Player

Brian Urlacher (LB, 1996-1999): The MWC player of the year and a consensus All American in 1999. In addition to being a linebacker worthy of a top 10 pick in the NFL Draft, in his senior season he caught 6 touchdowns on offense and returned 10 punts for an average of 16 yards per return.

Best Ever Coach

Rocky Long (1998–2008): Revived the program a bit, at one point took the team to 5 bowl games in 6 seasons.
