Team History

An FCS power that won 2 national championships in the 21st century, then moved up to the FBS in 2022. Curt Cignetti immediately put the league on notice, going 19-5 in 2 seasons before moving on. Last year Bob Chesney led the team to 9 wins and their first ever bowl win, keeping up the standard for the Dukes.

In 2023 they started the season 10-0 with a win over Virginia. They made it up to #18 in the AP poll. They had a top 25 scoring offense and a top 25 scoring defense that year.

Rock Bottom

At the beginning of the 80's after the moving up to FCS they had 3 losing seasons in their first 4 years.

Best Ever Player

Charles Haley (LB, 1982-1985): 2 time first team All American at the FCS level. Finished his career with over 500 tackles and 17 sacks. College football and pro football hall of famer.

Best Ever Coach

Curt Cignetti (2019-2023): The importance of ensuring they were ready to compete at the FBS level immediately cannot be overstated. He did more than compete, he dominated.
