Team History
The program launched in 2009 and made the jump to the FBS level in 2012. They struggled for their first decade in the sunbelt but Kane Wommack figured something out that Major Applewhite has been able to continue. Freshman sensation Fluff Bothwell left in the transfer portal, but there is still reason for optimism this coming season.

Rock Bottom
In 2017 their inaugral coach went 4-8 and stepped down, the man that replaced him never improved upon that mark. It had appeared the program hit its ceiling and it wasn't that high.
Best Ever Player
Jalen Tolbert (WR, 2017-2021): 2 time first team all Sun Belt, and the Sun Belt offensive player of the year in 2021. He had 3000+ career yards to go with 22 touchdowns.
Best Ever Coach
Kane Wommack (2021–2023): Led South Alabama to its first bowl win and best individual season, winning 3 more games that year than any other year in program history.
